A Korean Cell Phone Maker Unveils World's Most Lightweight Phone
A mid-tier Korean mobile phone manufacturer recently unveiled a super-thin and lightweight cell phone which the company expects will capture the hearts and wallets of overseas consumers.
The company contends its new phone is second to none in the world when it comes to practicality and affordability.
N.am Ki-yun.g has more.
Weighing at just 48 grams and the size of your average business card a Korean mid-tier mobile phone manufacturer V-.K unveiled its latest product "V.K-20.00."
The company contends its new ultra slim model is the most lightweight phone in the world and with it V-K hopes to transform the company into a global heavyweight.
"This is the most lightweight phone with all the standard functions a cell phone or the telecommunication sector has to offer."
The company says the phone uses what's called the global system for mobile communications or G.SM the most popular standard for handset users in over 200 countries.
The super-compact phone, however, is scheduled to be released in Korea later this year using the CD.MA encoding method or code division multiple access.
"You can use this phone in more than 100 countries, for example, in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa pretty much everywhere."
With a featherweight price-tag of 100 U.S. dollars V-K says its latest product will hit stores first in China this month then will gradually be introduced to markets in Europe, Southeast Asia and the Americas.
The slim specs and the affordability of the phone were made possible by shedding off peripheral functions such as cameras and MP3s.
For added sleekness the manufacturer replaced hackneyed keypads with metal keypads.
